Takeaway: Please join us as we continue to explore what's trending in/around orthopedics, the reopening, and trends related to digital health and PT.

Overview

We're excited to host a live Q&A with Dr. Steven Schutzer, Physician Executive at Trinity Health of New England, Orthopedic Service Line. Hedgeye Health Care Sector Head Tom Tobin will lead the discussion with Dr. Schutzer, a board certified orthopedic surgeon and proponent of robot-assisted surgery, value-based care, and the hybrid model. He recently left his practice to focus on leading the orthopedic service line at Trinity Health, so it will be interesting to hear how that is going, where he sees the practice of orthopedics heading, and which manufacturers and digital/virtual health players are best positioned to meet providers' needs in 2021 and longer-term.

Discussion topics:

    • Procedure volume and the return of in-person care: views from the front lines: how big is the backlog, how much capacity is there to work through it, what role does telehealth play both preoperative and in the patient after care.
    • Value-based contracts: episode of care payments, quality metrics, profitability, is it actually different this time?
    • Stryker's Mako: recent trends, why adoption has been so strong and the outlook, emerging competition.
    • New Implant Technology: has the adoption of new implant technologies been permanently changed because of COVID-19?
    • Implant Pricing: where is implant pricing heading, are there services or non-implant technologies emerging that can stall the commoditization of implants?
    • ASC Penetration: how has the role of the ASC changed given CMS policy changes and incentives, where might ASC share peak for large joint surgery?
    • Intraoperative surgical technology and remote patient monitoring: Zimmer's partnership with Canary, Stryker's acquisition of Orthosensor, J&J - Depuy Velys (can they compete w/ Stryker-Mako or Rosa?), Monogram, and others. Are there emerging players worth watching?
    • The role and evolution of virtual clinics: implications for orthopedics, referral patterns, and physical therapy.

We look forward to hearing Dr. Schutzer's views on the above, as well as fielding any questions you may have.
