WASHINGTON WEEK AHEAD - dc policy weekahead

THIS WEEK:

  • The House is out until Monday, October 23. The House Ways and Means Committee will be using the time to work on drafting a tax package as well as gathering input from stakeholders.
  • The Senate is expected to pass their FY18 budget on the floor.
  • Both sides of Pennsylvania Avenue will work to aid California in their relief and recovery efforts from the wildfires.
  • Senators will be grappling with the next steps following Trump’s Iran announcement and health care Executive Order.
  • The fourth round of NAFTA negotiations has been extended in hopes of making progress, but with little negotiating room from the U.S. they could be extended again.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 16:

  • President Trump will be talking tax, immigration, and disaster relief at a Cabinet meeting this morning, followed by a lunch with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Vice President Mike Pence.
  • The Senate will hold a confirmation vote for Callista Gingrich to be the U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See around 4:00PM.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 17:

  • The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions will hold a hearing on prescription drug costs at 10:00AM.
  • The Senate Banking Committee will hold a hearing on consumer data security following the Equifax breach at 10:00AM.
  • President Trump is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of Greece.
  • President Trump will deliver a speech on tax reform.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 18:

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 19:

  • The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions will hold a hearing on how healthy choices can improve health outcomes and lower costs at 10:00AM.
  • The conclusion of 50 hours of debate and “vote-a-rama," is expected to make the final FY18 budget vote in the Senate on Thursday.
