THIS WEEK:

  • The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) will score the Senate health care bill, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is planning to call a vote later this week.

  • The House will vote on Kate’s law, which could prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country if they’ve been convicted of a crime.

  • The Trump Administration is dubbing this week “Energy Week.” The House is holding a hearing on the future of clean energy as well as talking about self driving cars, while Secretary of Energy Rick Perry will be meeting with Governors at the White House and is expected to discuss Renewable Fuel Standards as well as Liquified Natural Gas exports.

 MONDAY, JUNE 26:

  • The House Appropriations Committee is holding a hearing on the FY18 defense appropriations bill at 7pm ET. Read more about what defense spending means for you from our Senior Defense Analyst Emo Gardner here.

  • Today is the last day of the Supreme Court’s session before their summer break.  They will decide what cases to hear: Trump’s travel ban, religious liberty vs. discrimination in the wedding industry, state’s ability to fund religious schools, and immigration protocols.

 TUESDAY, JUNE 27:

  • Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi will be visiting the White House, President Donald Trump is expected to announce an arrangement strengthening military ties with India.

  • The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative is holding a public NAFTA hearing- seeking public comments on “matters relevant to the Modernization” of NAFTA. Expect groups with strong stakes in the issue giving input to the Administration for renegotiations come August 16th.

  • The House Financial Services committee is holding a hearing on the structure of U.S. equity markets as part of a broader series evaluating the strength of our financial system since the 2008 crisis.

  • Moving forward on FY18 budget, the House Appropriations Committee is holding a hearing on the United Nations budget at 10am ET, the Senate is holding a hearing on the Department of Labor’s budget at 10:30am ET, the Senate Appropriations Committee is holding a hearing on the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission budget at 10 am ET, and the Senate Subcommittee on Department of the Interior is holding a hearing on EPA’s budget at 9:30am ET.

  • As concerns over the protocols of government surveillance come to light, the Senate Judiciary Committee is holding a hearing on FISA renewal at  9:30 am ET.

 WEDNESDAY, JUNE 28:

  • The FED will announce the results from their annual CCAR stress test, which monitors the strength of the financial industry. 

  • A large portion of regulations that came out of the 2008 financial crisis targeted government's role in financing homes, the Senate Banking Committee is meeting to discuss Housing reform, as rolling back regulations is a priority for Congressional Republicans.

  • The House is addressing two major safety concerns raised on Donald Trump's campaign trail: Foreign Affairs is holding a hearing on terror in Europe at 2 pm ET and the House Oversight Committee is holding a hearing on criminal justice reform.

   THURSDAY, JUNE 29:

  • In timing with Energy Week the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry is holding a hearing on the 2018 Farm Bill at 9:30am ET, which will have implications to corn farmers and the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).

  • The House Judiciary Committee is holding a hearing on international antitrust laws, some of the most interesting antitrust cases involve the telecom industry.  Read more from our Senior Telecom Analyst Paul Glenchur here.

 FRIDAY, JUNE 30:  

  • The House Appropriations Committee is expected to have up to 12 measures ready for the floor.  These measures will address discretionary spending in education, defense, and funding expected to run out at the end of September: FAA, National Flood Insurance, and CHIP.

  • The start of July 4th recess, and a soft deadline for the Republican health care initiative.
