New England, the region northeast of New York state and home to Hedgeye HQ, faces a similar dilemma to Europe. The region's power grid relies on natural gas for 50% of its generation, but New York's moratorium on new natural gas pipelines has meant that there's very little flexibility for inclement weather.

Since 2022, the region also lost access to 1 GW of nuclear capacity from New York's Indian Point and imports of LNG from the U.K., which some believe was regassified Russian LNG. Worst, U.S. LNG is unable to be shipped to New England, barring a presidential decree, due to archaic Jones Act law.
