Despite the best efforts of the White House, the CDC and the FDA, the public now casts a wary eye at vaccines, generally, but especially one for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The reasons are many, of course. The public was misled on a number of counts including efficacy - the central focus of FDA review. Some would argue, including the Surgeon General of the State of Florida, there are safety concerns as well. It appears to be generally accepted in the primary practice of medicine that young men are at risk for heart damage, for example, post-vaccination.
PFE has argued the latest COVID booster will enjoy a 24% uptake. They get there by haircutting the flu shot by half. Uptake for boosters in the last several months suggest otherwise. Meanwhile, commercialization implies costs not previously required when federal procurement, mandates and official guidance drove demand.
Meanwhile, PFE's base business does not appear to be enjoying the fruits of recent inflation trends suggesting the PFE machinery that has driven M & A choices may be getting stressed.
