defense bill

Senator Brian Schatz, a Democrat out of Hawaii, proposed an amendment to the must-pass defense bill which would allow veterans to use medical cannabis in states where it is legal. This amendment is identical to a stand-alone bill that Senator Schatz introduced to the Senate back in April. “Marijuana and its compounds show promise for pain management and treating a wide range of diseases and disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorder,” the findings section of the proposal states. “Medical marijuana in States where it is legal may serve as a less harmful alternative to opioids in treating veterans.” The bill would also protect doctors who discuss medical cannabis with veterans as well as would have the Veterans Affairs (VA) conduct clinical trials on the therapeutic effects of cannabis in the treatment of conditions such as pain and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

positive growth in Missouri

In February, Missouri legalized adult-use cannabis, and last month (June) the state saw $121.2M in cannabis sales. The state has been averaging $4M in daily since they legalized cannabis. The industry association MoCannTrade says that the adult-use market has created 16,271 direct jobs, up from 8,571 this time last year. “Missouri’s low-adult use cannabis tax, customer-friendly access, and diverse supply of quality products continue to drive great sales across the state this summer,” MoCannTrade Executive Director Andrew Mullins said in a press release on Friday. “Local economies across our state are also benefitting from the more than 16,000 cannabis jobs directly created in Missouri so far.” On top of that, the governor signed a bill last month that gives banks information about their local cannabis businesses. This bill is an effort to encourage banks in the state to work with the cannabis industry. It looks like Missouri took all the right steps to create a functioning cannabis market from the start. We continue to believe the state-siloed approach makes it almost impossible to create a long-lasting successful business.

you don't need to smoke pot to get high

In a survey conducted from April to mid-May, 49% of cannabis consumers reported using gummies over the past 6 months while 47% of consumers reported using flower over that same time frame. Gummies are a healthier option to smoking and have expanded the cannabis market to new consumers. Many adults use cannabis as a way to get a night of better sleep. CBN is a cannabinoid that is known for its characteristics as a sleep aid. 14% of gummies sold in March contained CBN, which is up from less than 1% just 3 years ago, according to BDSA.
