Schedule 1 drug.

A Nevada judge ruled last week that determined that the Nevada Board of Pharmacy can no longer list cannabis as a schedule one drug. The American Civil Liberties Union, ACLU, filed this lawsuit back in April of this year. By definition, a Schedule 1 drug is classified as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. With medical cannabis programs deeply entrenched in the state of Nevada, cannabis’ designation appears to fly in the face of well-established known medicinal uses of the drug. The federal DEA continues to list cannabis as a schedule 1 drug. While this Nevada judge sided with the ACLU on cannabis reclassification, he stopped short of ruling on any issues related to overturning convictions for marijuana-related crimes, because the ACLU’s lawsuit did not address the topic.

Republicans Don't want to get in the way of states.

Just over three-quarters of self-identified Republicans said the government shouldn’t fight state medical or adult-use legalization backed by voters and instead should remove any obstacles facing those markets, according to a new national poll commissioned by the industry group National Cannabis Roundtable. Similarly, the poll found that 73 percent of respondents believe businesses operating in state-legal markets should have the same rights as other legal businesses, while 21 percent disagreed with that statement. “The perceived notion that Republican voters are hostile to cannabis is wrong,” Tony Fabrizio, whose firm Fabrizio, Lee & Associates conducted the poll, said in an interview. “In fact, these Republican voters believe that if it's legal in a state, then … the feds should get out of the way and let the state handle it.” This poses well for current reform measures in the Senate like SAFE Banking get passed, but we all know more goes into this vote then just what citizens of this country want. politicopro.com
