  • According to a new survey, Republican men are significantly more likely than Democratic men to describe themselves as "very masculine." But Republican and Democratic women are about equally likely to describe themselves as "traditionally feminine." (Survey Center on American Life)
    • NH: A new survey asked Republicans and Democrats about their views of masculinity and femininity. So let's explore the findings.
    • Among Republican men, 54% view themselves as "very masculine," and 39% say "somewhat masculine." These results are flipped for Democratic men. While only 33% describe themselves as "very masculine," 53% say "somewhat masculine."

    • Interestingly, the partisan gap among men runs against the racial or ethnic gap. Minorities are more likely than whites to view themselves as manly. 55% of black men and 52% of Hispanic men view themselves as "very masculine." Only 36% of white men say the same thing. This points to the breadth of opinion in the Democratic Party--or a potential opportunity for Republicans, take your pick.
    • There is hardly any partisan divide when it comes to views of femininity among women. 42% of Democratic women and 39% of Republican women view themselves as "traditionally feminine."
    • In a separate question, the survey uncovered a parallel partisan divide over views of opinions about whether American society is "too soft and feminine." Among Republicans, 78% of men and 65% of women agree with the statement. But among Democrats, only 25% of men and 20% of women do.

  • Appliance Makers Court Homelanders. Most Homelanders are too young to be buying homes or home appliances. But according to Advertising Age, this isn’t stopping appliance brands from reaching out to them to establish brand awareness early. KitchenAid (owned by Whirlpool, WHR) is asking its followers to submit recipe videos on Instagram or TikTok that will be used to create a crowdsourced cookbook. LG has partnered up with YouTubers to create unboxing videos for smaller appliances, such as cordless vacuums or smart home appliances. Electrolux, meanwhile, is doubling down on sustainability and creating marketing campaigns that highlight waste reduction. And all of these brands are amping up the connectivity of their newest devices. Whirlpool’s smart ovens, for instance, automatically set their temperature and cooking time based on a selected recipe. The adoption of smart devices surged during the pandemic, with the share of U.S. households with wi-fi who own at least one jumping from 65% to 77% from 2020 to 2021.
