Takeaway: Still stretched and at historically high levels but cooling is good news for the premium labor line item

Chart of the Day | JOLTS...Thunk - 2022.06.02 COTD

As expected job openings in health care rolled over in April after slowing substantially in March. (See also Tom Tobin's work on AMN). Although job openings do remain at elevated levels, the crazy demand for workers we saw in 4Q 2021 has abated. As labor costs have driven the conversation for the last two earnings cycles, we should expect a more upbeat outlook for that line item for 2Q.

To be sure, Job Openings in Health Care and Social Assistance remain high relative to the pre-pandemic levels but the froth is off the demand and pricing for contract labor.

Have a great day.
