MORE SCHUMER BS

Schumer is claiming that he is meeting with Republicans about a bill that does not exist. One can only hope that all the back door politicking can get SAFE passed.

Over the weekend, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer spoke at the annual NYC Cannabis Parade and Rally in Union Square. “No amount of rain is going to stop me from coming here, “We’re going to … get all our Republicans on board — as many as we can get on board — and fight till we get our 60 votes.” Adding that he had already met with six Republicans “so we can get 10. I have invited every U.S. senator — every Democrat, every Republican — to meet with us and tell us why they won't support the bill or whether they will!"

Schumer, Wyden, and Booker released a discussion draft of their bill last summer, yet the bill has not been introduced. Schumer initially said he would introduce the bill in April. But last month, he said the bill would be introduced in August. The industry and the stock were paralyzed by the federal reform when Democrats took control of the government last year. The lack of progress on marijuana policy has caused trouble for the industry.

The BS only gets louder, knowing that even if he manages the unlikely feat of getting 10 Republicans on board, members of his party might not be on board. The House has passed the SAFE Banking Act six times in the past three years. Currently, it’s under consideration as an amendment in the House’s version of the COMPETES Act, also known as the China trade bill. There is also hope that the recent wave of robberies and deaths in Washington state and California will shift the outlook on Capitol Hill for legislation that would make it easier for cannabis companies to open bank accounts and apply for small business loans.

The only person that stands in the way of this happening is Chuck Schumer
