Florida Tracker

Sales in Florida were fairly flat this week. However, patients have consistently grown week over week. Compared to one year ago, patients have grown 61% to 583,000. Looking at the market share of companies, Trulieve and Surterra have lost some market share while Curaleaf and AltMed (Verano) have gained. A notable event is Cresco's completion of the acquisition of One Plant. One Plant will now be known as Sunnyside dispensaries under Cresco. They now own eight dispensaries in the state. In addition, liberty Health (Ayr) and Harvest each added one dispensary in the state.

Sha’Carri Richardson Olympics

As most have heard, Sha'Carri Richardson was suspended for one month due to a failed drug test for marijuana. In an interview with NBC, Richardson blamed the positive test on her use of marijuana as a way to cope with the unexpected death of her biological mother while she was in Oregon for the Olympic trials. “It sent me into a state of emotional panic,” she said, adding, “I didn’t know how to control my emotions or deal with my emotions during that time.” Although the NFL, NBA, and MLB have all weakened their rules on cannabis use, marijuana is still on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s list of prohibited substances. This is despite the fact that studies have shown marijuana is not performance-enhancing in any manner. According to USADA, "marijuana is a prohibited substance because it can enhance performance, it poses a health risk to athletes and its use violates the spirit of the sport." What do they even mean to "violate the spirit of the sport"? Unfortunately, the decision-makers of the USADA are behind the curve as their policies are severely outdated. If marijuana poses such a significant health risk to athletes, cigarettes and alcohol should be banned too. We hope the USADA can update its policies swiftly as more than 60% of the USA has some legal cannabis program.
