In 2020 SPACs raised $83B, more than 6x the amount in 2019. Year to date SPACs have raised $50B, more than $1B per day. It is difficult to keep up with all of the new companies. In an effort to uncover investment ideas in the "consumables" sector we are doing a "Research Roundup" on recent SPACs in the consumables space. We chose two companies that have either not garnered the appropriate attention from investors and therefore present attractive investment opportunities or have received too much hype and not enough vetting.

In our first Research Roundup we will dig into:

AppHarvest (APPH) - currently on our Short Bias List, began trading on Feb. 1. AppHarvest is building some of the largest greenhouses in Appalachia, closer to where the demand is. The company's technology enables it to grow the produce in a way that is better for the environment - with less transportation costs, no chemical pesticides, hybrid lighting, and efficient use of rainwater. The net impact of its technologies enable it to grow up to 30x more fruits and vegetables on an acre than traditional agriculture.

Bespoke Capital Acquisition Corp. (BSPE) - becoming Vintage Wine Estates, is expected to begin trading under a new ticker in April/May. Vintage Wine Estates is primarily focused on wines priced between $10-$20 per bottle. The company has built a portfolio of over 50 wine and spirits brands in the West coast. The company has a long track record of organic growth and successfully integrating acquisitions and extracting synergies. The company will have a billion dollars of acquisition capital to deploy in a fragmented industry of over 8,700 wineries just in the U.S.
