Administrator Bolden discussed:

  • the long-held dream of going to Mars using the lunar environment as a staging area but believes it will occur slower than currently envisioned by the Trump Administration.
  • his view of the commercialization of space, the Agency's interest in competition and the companies' future relationships with NASA
  • his belief that the Biden Administration will maintain the "constancy of purpose" of the program

There are few more qualified to discuss "where we are today" in space, the impact of the election on the US space program and the future of the commercial space industry than Charles Bolden:  US Naval Academy graduate, Marine attack pilot, test pilot, astronaut who piloted and/or commanded four space shuttle missions including the launching of the Hubbell space telescope, Marine aircraft wing commander as a Major General and NASA Administrator for both of President Obama's terms in office (2009-2017).

As Administrator, Bolden led the transformation of NASA and the US space program to embrace commercialization which is now bearing fruit in terms of a burgeoning industry and a new impetus for man to go beyond the moon.  General Bolden is still very "connected" as each one of the nine members of the Biden transition team for NASA worked for or with him while he was Administrator.
