The inexorable march of health care away from institutional settings to the home is not new. What is new is the way in which these trends are being magnified and accelerated by the COVID-19 outbreak. Tragically, the death toll at U.S. nursing homes has limited post-acute options for patients unable or unwilling to take the risk. Emergency policies adopted in response are aiding and abetting an administration whose attitude toward the crisis appears to be "waste not, want not." From the Trump administration's reimbursement decisions on remote monitoring and communication technology-based services to flexibilities on the homebound rule, policy and regulation appear to favor home care in the post-COVID-19 era as much, not coincidentally, as they do telehealth.

Mr. Kusserow, a healthcare industry veteran with deep expertise in driving growth strategies, previously served as President and Vice Chairman of Alignment Healthcare, Inc., an integrated clinical care company focused on providing care to the Medicare population. Prior to that, he served for five years as Senior Vice President, Chief Strategy, Innovations and Corporate Development Officer of Humana, Inc., a Fortune 75 healthcare services and benefits company.
Mr. Kusserow’s experience also includes time as Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of the Ziegler HealthVest Fund; Managing Director of San Ysidro Capital Partners, L.L.C.; and Managing Partner of Roaring Mountain, L.L.C. He began his healthcare career with Tenet Healthcare Corporation, one of the nation’s largest investor-owned healthcare service companies, where he spent seven years, the last four as Senior Vice President of Strategy and Ventures. He began his career as a management consultant at McKinsey and Company, Inc.
