Trulieve sells first edibles a week after green light from the DOH (TCNNF)

In testament to the company’s consistently strong operational execution, just a week after Florida’s DOH authorized the production and sale of edibles, Trulieve has already sold its first edible products with availability in at least 18 of its storefronts or close to a third of its Florida retail footprint. At the time of writing, the three other medical marijuana operators with authorized kitchens in the state – Parallel Florida (Surterra Wellness), VidaCann, and Curaleaf – have yet to start selling their own edible products. Trulieve’s initial edible lineup includes TruGels, chocolate bars, cookies, and brownies.

Per Florida law, edibles can contain at most 10 mgs of THC per individual serving with a max per package of 200 mgs. Trulieve’s current lineup is 100 mgs per package with 10 mg per individual piece.

In a historic decision, Pakistan approves domestic industrial hemp cultivation

Pakistan’s minister for science and technology, Fawad Chaudhry, announced on Twitter that the country’s cabinet had approved a ‘first license’ permitting the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) to use cannabis for industrial and medicinal purposes. In a news conference, the minister further detailed his optimism for Pakistan’s entrance in the hemp market, saying that it could generate $1B in revenue for the country over the next three years.

Ontario to double the monthly rate of retail storefronts it approves this fall (CGC, HITIF/META, FFLWF)

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) announced that it plans to double the number of cannabis retail store authorizations (RSA) it licenses per month this fall – moving from issuing 20 RSAs per month to an implied 40 RSAs per month. In all, the AGCO has issued 164 RSAs to date and 150 stores are currently open.

The province has a population of 14.7M people or roughly 40% of the country’s population, however as of the most recent Health Canada date, Ontario made up just 24.3% of total legal sales. Meanwhile, Alberta has a population of 4.4M people or roughly 12% of Canada’s population – its sales made up 23.2% of the nation’s total legal sales with its 517 licenses to date. The unit growth in the province will provide operators with a retail presence there (CGC, HITIF/META, FFLWF) with an expansion opportunity and will hopefully help in narrowing the illicit market.
