WASHINGTON WEEK AHEAD - dc policy weekahead

THIS WEEK:

  • The House is expected to vote on Budget Chair Diane Black’s (R-TN) FY18 budget now that they have secured the votes. This is a crucial step in moving tax reform.
  • Puerto Rico is in the very nascent stages of the recovery process from Hurricane Maria. President Trump is expected to visit the island Tuesday for an on the ground assessment.
  • Congressional committees will start the informal process for writing tax bills.
  • The White House will begin head hunting to replace Tom Price as the Secretary for Health and Human Services who resigned from his post Friday. Trump’s rumored short list for replacements: CMS Administrator Seema Verma, FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, VA Secretary David Shulkin, and former LA Governor Bobby Jindal.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 2:

  • The Senate is expected to vote on the renomination of the Federal Communications Commission Chair Ajit Pai at 5:30PM.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 3:

  • President Trump will visit Puerto Rico with members of his Cabinet.
  • The Senate Banking Committee will hold a hearing to examine Wells Fargo - CEO Tim Sloan will testify at 10:00AM.
  • The House Financial Services Committee will hear from Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Mel Watt, on the role of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
  • The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on nominations at the Department of Homeland Security at 9:30AM.
  • The Senate Finance Committee will examine international tax reform at 10:00AM.
  • The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold an oversight hearing to examine the Administration's decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals at 10:00AM.
  • The Senate Joint Economic Committee will examine tax reform and entrepreneurship at 10:00AM.

  • The Senate is expected to move the FY18 budget out of committee by the end of the week.
  • Vice President Pence is expected to visit the U.S. Virgin Islands.
