CALL INVITE: HOTSPOT KOREA: A FORMER COMMANDER'S VIEW (LINK UPDATE!) - Slide1

If you believe The Fourth Turning by William Strauss and Hedgeye's own Neil Howe (and President Trump's main advisor, Steve Bannon does), we are within a few years of a cathartic event on the order of World War II, the Civil War or the Revolution as part of a cycle of history that dates back to the Wars of the Roses.

Nowhere do today's circumstances make the 1997 book seem more prescient than on the Korean peninsula. Kim Jong Un is clearly on a path to achieving a nuclear ICBM capability and the South Korean President has been impeached for a Rasputin-like affair.  At home, our national security apparatus is in turmoil and there is a dearth of Asia experience at senior levels.  Breaking decades of tradition, new SecDef Jim Mattis' first overseas trip was not to visit our combat troops but to Japan and Korea. Ominously, the President has issued an Executive Order requiring the Pentagon to fix all of its readiness woes by October 2018.

Hedgeye's LtGen "Emo" Gardner will host a call with a uniquely qualified man who can talk with first hand experience of today's risks in Korea, outlining the potential scenarios that could unfold there in the coming weeks and months and explaining the implications for the US.

General James D. Thurman USA Ret. commanded US and UN forces in Korea from 2011 until his retirement in 2013. In his 38 year career, Gen Thurman has either commanded or directed operations during every major Army combat engagement in the last two decades.  He has significant experience in Europe and managed all US Army operations while in the Pentagon.  Gen Thurman is a personality as well as a renowned combat leader.  This is a must call for anyone interested in trying to understand future probabilities and events.
