Will Columbia legalize it?

A bill to legalize marijuana in Colombia was approved yesterday. This marks the 7th of 8 votes needed before the proposed constitutional amendment is sent to the president. Its next and final step is a Senate floor vote, which is expected to happen on June 16. Advocates are increasingly concerned that unrelated governmental controversies could derail the effort this year as deadlines for action quickly approach. The legalization bill would support “the right of the free development of the personality, allowing citizens to decide on the consumption of cannabis in a regulated legal framework,” it says. And it would mitigate “arbitrary discriminatory or unequal treatment in front of the population that consumes.” We will have to wait and see if the Senate approves and the president signs this exact bill because if any amendments are made to the bill, it will have to go through the 8 step process again.

Are mushrooms Coming To Rhode Island?

Yesterday, Rhode Island House committee approved a bill that would legalize the possession and cultivation of psilocybin mushrooms while taking steps to prepare for regulated therapeutic access pending federal reform. The bill passed the committee with a vote of 12-2 with the next step being the bill hitting the house floor. The legislation would remove criminal penalties for possessing and cultivating up to one ounce of psilocybin for personal use, and people would also be able to share that amount with other adults—beginning on July 1. The bill states that if the FDA reschedules the psychedelic, which the agency has already designated as a breakthrough therapy, then the Rhode Island Department of Health “shall establish rules and regulations pertaining to cultivation, distribution and medical prescription.”
