The legislation would empower the White House and Commerce Department to restrict communications technologies from Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela and other countries subsequently identified as posing risks to national security. Meanwhile, we await a final national security recommendation regarding TikTok from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS), including action on a TikTok proposal to insulate U.S. data and operations from any entity in China.

Of course, TikTok puts enormous competitive pressure on Meta Platforms (Facebook), Google, Snap and other social media platforms. They stand to benefit from a TikTok ban or major operating restrictions on the app.
