Political pressure on TikTok is rising, but the app's popularity and user base are rising even faster.  Please join us as we focus on the regulatory and legal risks to TikTok.

TikTok, owned by China's ByteDance, is the most popular app in the universe.  Despite its popularity, national security concerns about TikTok continue to escalate.  Lawmakers, regulators and officials at federal and state levels worry that the Chinese Government can gain access to the personal data of American users and use TikTok as a vehicle for political influence.

The federal government could soon ban the app on federal devices and state governments are taking similar action.  Consumer protection lawsuits against TikTok have been filed and members of congress and regulatory officials are urging Apple and Google to ban TikTok from their app stores.  Congressional legislation has been proposed to ban the app completely.

Meanwhile, the inter-agency Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S (CFIUS) has been reviewing the TikTok threat and could soon recommend measures that could allow TikTok to operate subject to mitigation requirements to protect national security or recommend more severe restrictions, including prohibiting the App's operations or forcing divestiture to a U.S. entity.

Of course, TikTok puts enormous competitive pressure on Meta Platforms (Facebook), Google, Snap and other social media platforms.  They stand to benefit from a TikTok ban or major operating restrictions on the app.

Can TikTok survive the intense national security scrutiny?  We hope you will join us.
