Takeaway: Openings down MoM but health care labor demand remains very elevated suggesting ongoing acute need

Chart of the Day | JOLTS: More of the Same - Health Care Employment 5

The October JOLTS report continues the trend of strong demand for health care workers. Job openings dropped 4.13% MoM but remains at historic highs with just under 2M help wanteds. Hires were also down sequentially 3.38% but in total health care labor demand remains near record highs at 2.7M workers. Quits were up 1.98% while layoffs and discharges were down 16.7%.

If the numbers could talk it would say that labor demand slowed from 2.8M positions in September to 2.7M in October. That decline was muted a little by fewer separations. While more workers left for greener pastures, health care businesses were not inclined to initiate separations as they try to hang onto the workers they have.
