Takeaway: The reasons could be mortality or labor shortages. Either way, not a good harbinger for the treatment metric

Chart of the Day | Dialysis Facility Employment at Five Year Low DVA, FMS - 2022.04.04 Chart of the Day

The dialysis industry faces some tough headwinds. Unlike ambulatory care, it is not a sought after work site and so must compete for a shrinking pool of workers in an increasingly competitive environment. It also faces the prospect of lower prevalence as COVID and associated knock-on effects increase mortality. Last week's employment data is daunting for the industry. It is either telling us the demand for dialysis facility workers has shrunk (the effects of mortality) or staffing is an acute problem.

Employment at dialysis facilities now sits at a five year low.
