Takeaway: We’re going deep to assess where dollars are showing up in the apparel supply chain – from manufacturer, to brand, to retailer and consumer.

We think the apparel industry is overearning more today than at any time in the modern history of the softgoods space – at least since the offshoring/outsourcing boom of the 70s and 80s created the baseline for the industry as it exists today. Most companies don’t realize that they are over-earning, due to lack of a clear quantitative backdrop around where dollars are being funneled though the supply chain, and who is profiting between the point of manufacturing and end consumer pricing.  As such, we’re going deep into the fundamentals of the apparel industry in a Black Book to examine the growth, consumption, brand/retailer market share, margin, inventory, profitability and cash conversion characteristics of the apparel supply chain on a global scale. We think this deck will be a great foundational backdrop for investors as it relates to any ticker that comes remotely close to anything resembling the sale of apparel and footwear.
