When you take a glance at the mortality in the U.S. caused by COVID-19, the absolute numbers seem relatively inconsequential. That is, until you remember that about 80% of health care spending, particularly in Medicare, are directed at a fraction of the population, most of them frail and high utilizers of services. COVID has likely pulled forward enough mortality that it is, and for the next several years should continue to be, meaningful. We will also take a look at impacts to younger populations and what that might mean for replenishing the demand that has been impacted.
