From the man who coined the term “millennial” in 1991 and authored The Fourth Turning with William Strauss, we were joined by Hedgeye Demography analyst Neil Howe to discuss Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the current state of global & domestic affairs with Hedgeye President Michael Blum, live on HedgeyeTV.

Neil on the hallmarks of the Fourth Turning:

"Two of the big hallmarks of the Fourth Turning are economic crisis and financial crisis, and the possibility of civil war… 10 years ago, this wasn't even on the radar screen.

… And now we have the possibility of geopolitical conflict.”

Neil on the state of the American political system:

"I consider Joe Biden to be a lame duck President. I, realistically, don’t think he’s going to run again."

"I think it's more clear that this will be a divided Congress, if not a totally Republican Congress. In which case we have almost 2 years of a leaderless government, in terms of a divided government."

Neil Howe and William Strauss wrote The Fourth Turning in 1997, in which they described it as the final stage of the roughly 80 year cycles modern society goes through… when society “passes through a great and perilous gate in history.”
