  • Fido’s Family Tree. DNA testing used to be reserved for “elite” dogs. Breeders wanted to keep bloodlines pure and prices for new puppies high. But increasingly, according to The Economist, everyday dog owners are signing up to test their furry friends as well. The total number of animals tested by Wisdom Panel, which sells pet DNA tests, has grown from 1 million in 2018 to 3 million today. One of its competitors, Embark Veterinary, was recently valued at $700M after the company raised $75M in Series B funding. Pet DNA tests run from $100 to $200, with the vast majority purchased for dogs.
