New York updates the medical cannabis program.

The state Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) announced Monday that New York has launched a new certification and registration system for its Medicaid Cannabis Program. The new system brings it under complete control of the new office. It expands the program, including patient eligibility criteria according to the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act, which shifted the medical program from the state Department of Health to the new cannabis office. The program will now allow practitioners to certify patients for any condition they believe can be treated with medical cannabis. This discretion was granted under the MRTA that legalized the drug for adult recreational use. OCM Executive Director Chris Alexander said the launch of the new patient certification and registration system and eligibility expansion "are significant steps forward for our program." "We will continue to implement the MRTA and ensure that all New Yorkers who can benefit from medical cannabis have the access they need to do so. The OCM will issue certifications to patients who utilize the new system. Those previously issued from the Department of Health will remain valid until their expiration dates, after which they will be reissued from the OCM.

FL Rollback Of Smokeable Flower

Florida's medical marijuana regulator has brought back stricter enforcement on the amount of smokable pot someone can buy within 35 days. The state Office of Medical Marijuana Use sent an email last week to more than 664,000 active patients announcing the start of a new rolling limit. The new guidelines will govern how patients purchase the 2.5 ounces of raw "flower" they are allowed to buy over 35 days. Patients can purchase 2.5 ounces at the end of the 35 days without the enforcement and then buy more once the new 35-day period starts. With the enforcement, patients will be required to spread those purchases over 35 days. The state's 2017 medical marijuana law allows a patient to have up to 4 ounces at a time on hand. The new plan released on Friday starts on March 1, but it gives patients a 35-day transition period before the rolling limit starts. This is the second recent attempt by the state Office of Medical Marijuana Use to enforce the rolling limit. The OMMU introduced a similar plan in the fall that was quickly rescinded after the office received a lengthy raft of complaints from patients and doctors who said they were caught by surprise.
