ACB Need Cash and CRON HAS IT

Yesterday, Aurora Cannabis, together with 22nd Century Group (XXII), announced today a three-way non-exclusive agreement to license biosynthesis intellectual property to Cronos (CRON), intended to assist in the advancement of research and development on the biosynthesis of cannabinoids.  Through licensing agreements, Aurora and the 22nd Century Group share the global IP rights to commercialize key aspects of cannabinoid biosynthesis in plants and micro-organisms.  "This license combines the resources and intellectual property of all three companies in this agreement intended to facilitate the commercial success of a biosynthetic approach, which complements the disruptive plant-based advancements 22nd Century and Aurora continue to develop to bring more consistent and higher yields to the hemp and cannabis industry. We believe that the availability of both plant-based and biosynthetic cannabinoids will be important to the commercial success of our industry, and this agreement positions 22nd Century, Aurora and Cronos Group with an important role in each approach."

An important component to the CRON story is the R&D and innovation initiatives around the biosynthesis work at the Cronos Fermentation in Winnipeg in partnership with Ginkgo Bioworks. In 2Q20, CRON announced the successful fermentation of CBG in the Winnipeg R&D labs.  The Company continues to optimize for scale and downstream processing in preparation for commercialization, and the licensing agreement with ACB will expedite that process.  In 2Q21, CRON launched its editable brands SOURZ by Spinach in Canada, a new line of cannabis gummies with bold and unique dual-flavor combinations.   According to the PR, "SOURZ delivers bold-fruit flavors and a distinctive S shape with a proprietary coating designed to provide a sour and sweet flavor profile, differentiating the product and elevating the consumer experience.   According to Hifyre Data, SOURZ by Spinach has achieved a double-digit market share in the edibles category during the most recent period. OCS Data for Ontario sales to retailers report that all three of the SOURZ by Spinach SKUs rank in the top 10 of the edible category.  Building on the Spinach gummies, the Company plans to leverage the brand and product format to bring cultured CBG to market.  The first Spinach gummy featuring cultured CBG is planned to be pineapple, star fruit flavor.

GROW GENERATION

GRWG announced the retirement of Tony Sullivan, executive vice president and chief operating officer, effective immediately.  Darren Lampert, CEO: "In 2021, we brought on key leaders with exceptional retail experience, talent, and expertise, including Jeff Lasher as CFO, Paul Rutenis as Chief Merchant Officer to lead the private label and proprietary brands growth, Dennis Sheldon to run technology and supply chain, and Becky Gebhardt to run e-commerce and marketing. We believe the operational team now in place will allow the Company to grow and scale in 2022 and beyond."
