Massachusetts sales have remained strong and picked up steam in the last few weeks. As a result, the tracker can now accurately gauge YoY changes in sales, with the week of 6/11 having sales of $26 Million, a 130% increase from last year. With the recent pickup in sales, the annualized run rate is now $1.183 Billion.
Mexico Taking Steps to End Prohibition
In October of 2018, the Mexican supreme court originally ruled that marijuana criminalization unconstitutionally infringed on the rights of adults, and it set a deadline of one year for lawmakers to change the laws accordingly. Lawmakers requested extensions, setting deadlines for April 2020, then December 2020, and finally April 2021. After Congress was unable to settle the matter by the latest deadline, the supreme court took matters into its own hands. Minister Norma Lucía Piña Hernández, who serves on the supreme court, recently filed a general declaration of unconstitutionality with respect to Mexico’s cannabis laws. And the body is expected to take up the issue on Monday. This action will nullify parts of the Mexico Constitution that criminalize people over cannabis. But they’ve emphasized that this does absolve legislators of their responsibility to develop regulations for a program of adult-use marijuana production and sales. Eight of the eleven ministers on the supreme court will have to vote in favor of passing the legislation to prevent prohibition from being overturned.
