Connecticut has become the 19th state to legalize adult recreational use of cannabis after Gov. Ned Lamont signed the bill into law on Tuesday.  The bill will come into effect on July 1st, allowing adults aged 21 and older to possess up to 1.5 ounces of cannabis. The sale of recreational marijuana is expected to begin in May 2022.  "People have been working on this for 10 years," Lamont noted, adding, "it's been a long time coming. I think we have a good bill that puts public health first."  The legalization "will help eliminate the dangerous unregulated market and support a new, growing sector of our economy which will create jobs,"  Yesterday, Multi-state operators in afternoon trading were mixed to down. Lamont also mentioned he would be open to trying the product once legalized.

Usage Rates Surge Among Women and Gen Z

According to a new study by a research firm called Brightfield Group, 50% of consumers use cannabis more than five days per week, while 22% of consumers use it multiple times a day. Also, female cannabis consumers skew younger and are heavier users than men. The portion of female cannabis users steadily rose through 2020, reaching 51% in the first quarter of this year.
