Editor's Note: Below is a brief excerpt from The Macro Show this morning where Hedgeye CEO Keith McCullough responds to a subscriber's question.

There are a lot of people out there – baby boomers in particular – who have gotten really rich telling the world that they’re smarter than everybody else, and convincing people that they know what should, or what could happen.

I’d focus your attention on the following quote from Alabama head coach Nick Saban that I used in this morning’s Early Look. Saban has been royally kicking the ass of a lot of college football coaches for a very long time. This quote is very appropriate in trying to answer a lot of questions I receive from investors.

“I’m not interested in what should be, could be, was. I’m interested in what is, what we control.” -Nick Saban

That’s it—that’s what my team and I are interested in.

I’m interested in what the economic data is doing. What is it and what can we control—the moves that we can make based on that economic data and market signal.

That’s what I’m going to do. I’m not going to trade and try to risk manage Paul Manafort, or some former porn star, or whatever else they’re talking about on CNBC right now.

It’s just not going to happen.
