In a clip from The Call @ Hedgeye, Macro & Financials analyst Josh Steiner sheds light on this historical context, noting that the move is "far from unprecedented."

"For more than half of the country's history, more than half of federal revenues have come from tariffs," Steiner explains.

He adds that between the 1870s and World War I, tariffs accounted for 40-50% of federal funding.
