Leading tech platforms continue to garner the interest of equity investors, but regulators in the U.S. and Europe have become increasingly aggressive in their efforts to limit platform power.  Regulators are imposing utility-type regulation on tech platform operations or commencing antitrust enforcement actions and investigations targeting core drivers of future growth, including AI-enabled services.

We'll provide an update on the near term and longer term threats to dominant tech and media platforms, including:

  • U.S. and European regulatory threats to Microsoft's investment in OpenAI;
  • Potential federal court and EU pressure on Apple to cut App Store commissions;
  • A federal court antitrust ruling that could cut or eliminate Apple default search payments from Google;
  • An FTC privacy order that could prohibit Meta's commercial use of youth data;
  • Supreme Court decisions sustaining or rejecting state regulation of social media content;
  • Net Neutrality rules that could restrict carrier monetization of premium 5G services;
  • Potential Justice Department breakup case against Live Nation/Ticketmaster

Time permitting, we'll touch on other big topics, including a potential forced sale or ban of TikTok, and the FTC's case to force Meta to divest Instagram.

We hope you will join us.
