The Call ‘Week In Review’: MasterCard, MSC Industrial & iHeart Media (4/9/21)

04/09/21 02:56PM EDT

We created “The Call” to simulate the decision-making process of a world-class hedge fund.

  • How do the sharpest investors analyze their favorite long and short ideas?
  • What’s the debate like between analyst and portfolio manager?

In keeping with that theme, below are video highlights from this week’s edition of “The Call” we wanted to call to your attention. We’ve also transcribed brief excerpts to speed up your idea generation process.

Enjoy and have a great weekend.

FINANCIALS ANALYST JOSH STEINER: MASTERCARD (MA)

Steiner: "We got interesting numbers from MasterCard. They've done a pretty decent job here of quantifying the econ-pull forward dynamics of the pandemic, both globally and domestically."

INDUSTRIALS ANALYST JAY VAN SCIVER: MSC INDUSTRIAL (MSC)

Van Sciver: "[MSC] sold a lot of PPE, safety equipment, and things to factories that allowed them to ramp back up safely. There is a real shortage of protective personal equipment, but now we are seeing the other side of that. . . with restructuring out of MSC. We are seeing daily sales growth potentially down YoY."

COMMUNICATIONS ANALYST ANDREW FREEDMAN: IHEART MEDIA (IHRT)

Freedman: "More traffic is obviously a good thing for radio listening and podcast usage still continues to grow. IHRT is the largest publish out there, so I think they're just going to have another great quarter and get back to their 4Q19 run rate a little bit faster."
