HBI is officially a battleground stock once again, having caught three upgrades last week. The crux of the upgrades focused around…
- resurgence in basic apparel demand,
- out of stocks seen at mass, so HBI chasing inventory,
- shelf space gains at WMT,
- mask production as a revenue booster,
- positive Champion POS data, and
- a new CEO coming in next month as a catalyst for change.
Sounds compelling – especially given that expectations are so low for 2Q to be reported next Thursday – a rarity for the perennial underperformer that is HBI.
Fast forward…HBI has doubled off its April bottom, and there’s finally some controversy and a real credible bull/bear debate. We’ll be presenting a new Black Book on Tuesday ahead of the print to vet each of these issues to risk-manage the roadmap over TRADE/TREND/TAIL durations to assess whether the name is shortable again, or if the new bull case has any teeth with the stock back up to $14.
