In this latest episode of Demography Unplugged, I sat down with Richard Jackson, eminent demographer and president of the Global Aging Institute, to talk about the causes, consequences, and timing of global aging.

This is very much a big-picture discussion, focusing on long-term questions about the history and future of the global economy and geopolitics. It is also designed to introduce viewers to the special terminology (like total fertility rate, demographic dividend, Kuznets curve, and phase-five transition) that demographers like to bandy about.

Richard is an old friend of mine—and we have worked on many books and projects together. You may occasionally catch us here finishing each other’s sentences.

I hope you enjoy it.
