Some investors are beginning to wonder if Tesla should carry on without its founder and CEO Elon Musk.

Hedgeye Industrials analyst Jay Van Sciver – one of the most vocal bears on Tesla’s stock – says that if an important part of the Tesla long thesis is going to survive, Elon Musk has to remain at the helm. In Van Sciver’s view, an exit by Musk would only help his bear case.

“Musk is Tesla,” Van Sciver puts it simply in the clip above.

“I think he could transition to a non-executive chairman in the worst case without full-on catastrophe. And an absolute leg of the long thesis is that Elon Musk is the next Edison. So if he goes, you lose a lot of long investor interest because you don’t have the next Edison.”
