Neil Howe: An Epic Working-Age Population Slowdown Dead Ahead In U.S.

America’s workforce has a massive problem looming on the horizon, according to Hedgeye Demography analyst Neil Howe.

Looking at the absolute annual growth in the working-age population, the U.S. is headed for a slowdown unlike anything seen since the post-Civil War Reconstruction era of the 1870’s.

It’s a remarkable statistic that has Howe worried.

“We have four million Millennials coming into the workforce, but 3.5 million Boomers moving past age 65,” Howe explains in the clip above. “You can see the difference here between a demographically high-growth society and a low-growth one.”

He predicts that growth will slow even further into the early 2020’s as more Boomers retire.
