Join us for a call with David Hoppe, former chief of staff to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Macro Policy Analyst JT Taylor for a discussion on the steps forward after the reveal of the Big Six’s tax reform plan by President Trump at a rally in Indiana. House Republicans are currently meeting at an offsite retreat this afternoon and into the evening to discuss the policy, process, and politics of advancing their crown jewel - tax reform. We will gauge their reaction, prospects for passing the critical FY18 budget, and what the road ahead for Congressional leaders will entail.

The Big Six's proposal will:

      --lower the corporate rate to 20%;
      --reduce the number of individual tax brackets to three with a top rate of 35%;
      --double the standard deduction;
      --lower the tax rate on smaller, family-owned "pass-through" businesses to 25%;
      --set guardrails to prevent wealthy people from using the new "pass-through" rates to benefit themselves personally.

This is the starting point for tax reform. Tax bills will then proceed through markup in the House Ways and Means Committee, votes on the House floor, markup in the Senate Finance Committee, and votes on the Senate floor. It will be done as a reconciliation bill pursuant to the yet-to-be-passed FY18 budget.

See the Tax Framework One Pager for a rundown of key provisions or see Tax Framework for the detailed outline.
