THIS WEEK:

  • This week the Big Six are expected to unveil their framework for tax reform, kicking off the process for passing a tax package.
  • The Senate is expected to make a last ditch attempt to repeal and replace Obamacare. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is expected to call a vote on Wednesday, even without a secure 50 votes.
  • House Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady and Speaker Paul Ryan are hosting a two-day retreat on tax reform with the House tax writers.
  • NAFTA negotiations will continue for a third round in Ottawa this week.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 25:

  • The Health and Human Services Department and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services are holding a meeting with the Medicare Advisory Panel on Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory Tests (CDLTs) to make recommendations to the Secretary and the Administrator regarding payment for CDLTS for which CMS received no applicable information to calculate Medicare payment rates.
  • The Senate Finance Committee is holding a hearing to examine the Graham- Cassidy- Heller- Johnson proposal at 10am ET.
  • The House is expected to consider the North Korean Human Rights Reauthorization Act of 2017.
  • President Trump is having dinner with leaders of conservative grassroots groups.
  • CNN is hosting a town hall with Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) to debate health care with Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) at 9pm ET.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26:

  • The Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee is holding an oversight hearing to examine the role of the SEC at 10am ET.
  • The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee is examining federal nominations - Bruce J. Walker to be an Assistant Secretary (Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability), and Steven E. Winberg to be an Assistant Secretary (Fossil Energy), both of the Department of Energy.
  • The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee will examine how the Federal Trade Commission handles consumer protection cases and other reforms at 2:30pm ET.
  • The House Committee on Homeland Security will hold a hearing on modernizing the financial systems at the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Attorney General (AG) Jeff Sessions is giving an address on free speech at Georgetown University Law School.
  • Alabama’s primary runoff between Senator Luther Strange and  Roy Moore in their special election to fill the seat left vacant by AG Jeff Sessions is Tuesday.
  • The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is holding a meeting where they could adopt orders affecting media ownership and net neutrality, although, major action on these two contentious issues, appear more likely during the October 26th meeting.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27:

  • House Republicans are expected to take a half-day retreat on tax reform.
  • President Trump is going to Indiana to deliver a speech on tax reform.
  • The House Small Business Committee is holding a hearing on tax reform at 11:00am ET. They will discuss modernizing the tax code to encourage job creation.
  • The House Agriculture Committee will examine the 2017 agenda for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission at 10am ET.
  • The House Foreign Affairs Committee is holding a hearing on the president’s FY18 budget request for Afghanistan and Pakistan.
  • The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure is holding a hearing to examine highway and transit stakeholder’s perspective on building 21st century infrastructure in the U.S.

  • The House Financial Services Committee is holding a hearing on “Examining Insurance for Nonprofit Organizations” at 9:30am ET.
  • HEDGEYE TELECOM LUNCHEON IN NEW YORK: Our Senior Telecom Analyst Paul Glenchur will be hosting a telecom and media policy luncheon in New York City highlighting the FCC outlook following their meeting.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 29:

  • President Trump will speak to the National Association of Manufacturers board.
  • Congress also must address authorization for the Coast Guard, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Intelligence Agencies, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program before they expire on September 30th.
