Obamacare may have been doomed to fail from its inception.

That's according to Hedgeye Health Policy Analyst Emily Evans.

"It failed to account for the high degree of variability in insurance regulations across this country and the high degree of variability in household incomes," Evans said on the The Macro Show earlier today.

She pointed to Massachusetts where "Romneycare" had worked, but has a much higher median household income than states like Mississippi.

"You take this construct and you impose it on states without the [high] median household income and without being able to purchase all of those services that you're mandating, you're going to run into trouble."

Evans went on to explain that the cost sharing plan and subsidies in Obamacare were supposed to mitigate those issues, but those who were younger and working or on Medicaid ended up being negatively affected by the plan.

"It was doomed to fail because it didn't account for that very fundamental fact in this country," she said.
