Today's call was the first of a series of calls that will examine the overall US Defense Budget environment. Today we covered three primary themes and an overview of changes in PresBud18 from the FY17 appropriation for each of the five large primes:
- There is an inexorable demand for recapitalization of the nation's big ticket procurement programs and restoration of readiness for near-peer competition after 16 years of counterinsurgency/counterterrorism warfare. Bills must be paid.
- Although first among equals, Defense must compete for resources within a discretionary topline constrained by law and fiscal reality.
- While some expectations are too high, in the end, more $ will come
