The only surprise about Mike Flynn's departure as National Security Advisor is that it came in four weeks rather than the four to six months we have been predicting for some time now. 

By now the President must realize that he must have a "mechanic" in key White House jobs like the National Security Advisor if he is to keep the wheels of government rolling and not be run over by events.   That said loyalty or at least a lack of past betrayal will be determinant in whom he chooses to suceed Flynn.
