Trump’s cabinet selections will have a profound impact on U.S. domestic and foreign policy.

Former Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham explains the implications to Hedgeye CEO Keith McCullough. Abraham is uniquely qualified to give his assessment. He was Secretary of Energy in the George W. Bush administration and before that was a U.S. Senator, representing the state of Michigan.

“You’re going to see some pretty profound change,” Abraham says.

Trump’s top priority should be getting both his cabinet and Republican lawmakers on the same page, so they can hit the ground running in the New Year. Setting a clear agenda for both to accomplish is paramount, Abraham says.

“It’s imperative for there to be a clear set of priorities they want to advance,” he says. “Hopefully they will get on the same page, because Trump will have a receptive Congress on a variety of different issues.” Abraham says Trump will be able to tackle issues related to energy pipelines in the Executive branch while Congress should be tasked with tackling the GOP’s plans to repeal and replace Obamacare.

Abraham discussed the following cabinet picks at length and what they mean for Trump’s forthcoming policy agenda:

  • Rick Perry: Secretary of Energy
  • Scott Pruitt: head of Environmental Protection Agency
  • Elaine Chao: Transportation Secretary
  • Rex Tillerson: Secretary of State
