What’s on the radar of Hedgeye’s world-renowned demographer Neil Howe? As guest host of The Macro Show today, The Fourth Turning co-author dug into four big topics—he touched on China’s population decline, the flight from U.S. cities to the suburbs, the stickiness of remote work culture, and the “second wave” of European populism.

Howe also discusses the implications of growing far-right sentiment in Europe, most notably in France, as President Macron faces a “complete gridlock in the national assembly.” The global stress doesn’t stop there, as he also highlights the timeline for a decline in China’s population not helped by their “negligible net immigration.”

Here on the home front, Howe shows America’s progress on getting people back to work, and how remote work may be the “new normal.” In particular, he highlights cities, where there’s been a “huge decline in large metros, and somewhat of a rise in some of the smaller metros.”
