Rail intermodal traffic, which is an indicator container activity – and is largely retail-related – is literally falling off a cliff.

It’s a long-dated data series, and this is measured on a 4-week moving average, so it’s more of a statement as to what happened over the past month.

But the reality is that this is not the kind of movement you want to see at such an important time of year.

Definitely a bearish data point as it relates to supply of goods available to hit the shelves.
