In this morning’s edition of The Macro Show, Macro & Financials analyst Josh Steiner highlights the rocketing inflation in shipping costs, and how these levels are indicative of trending (not transitory) inflation.

“The cost of shipping a 40-foot steel container from China to the U.S. cost about $1,500 pre-pandemic. A month ago, that was up to $10,500. According to the latest reading, it now costs $15,800 for just one container.

It's up +50% in one month, and over 10-fold in a year and a half. Shipping is becoming a major issue,” explains Steiner, as he breaks down the trending inflation stemming from the supply side and input costs.
